History and Folklore: Egyptians claim that bees were created from Ra's tears, while in Greece a bee could house the spirit of one of Aphrodite's faithful priestesses. Ancient Pagans also associated bees with spirits, but more as an emblem of the soul's immutable nature.
The Qu'ran says bees are faithful, intelligent, and wise, while Christianity characterizes them as cooperative and orderly. In many other settings bees conveyed messages between the worlds, which may by why Europeans observed the behavior of bees as an omen of things to come.
