The infamous clergyman Cotton Mather was born on this day in the year 1663 in Boston, Massachuesettes. His writings and sermons which condemned the practice of the Old Religion contributed immensely to the hysteria of 1692, and the Salem Witch-hunt. He died the day after his birthday in Boston, in 1728.
