On this day, the Candlemas Sabbat is celebrated by Wiccans and Witches throughout the world. Candlemas (Imbolc, Imbolg, Oilmec, Lady Day) is the fire festival that celebrates the coming of Spring. New beginning and spiritual growth are represented by using a besom to sweep out the sacred circle. This is traditionally done by the HPS of the coven, who normally wears a crown of 13 candles on top of her head.. the Thirteen candles represent all Thirteen phases of the moon. In Europe Candlemas was celebrated with a torch light procession to purify the seeds and fields before planting season, and to give thanks to the various deities of agriculture.
