January 3rd

On this day, an annual fertility festival known as the Deer Dances is performed by the Pueblo Tribe of the Southwestern United States. The ceremony is centuries old and dedicated to the great female spirit-goddesses known as the Deer Mothers. Practices included in this ceremony are sacred ritual dances performed by shamans wearing deer head-dresses.

In ancient Greece, the pagan festival known as Lenaia was celebrated in honor of the God Dionysis (God of Wine and Fertility).
