In Katmandu Valley, Nepal a sacred festival is held in honor of the goddess Sarasvati, an ancient Indian diety who presides over education. At temples dedicated to her, offerings of food, flowers, and incense are made by faithful Hindus, and students whom wish to achieve high marks on their exams. In the courtyard of the Hanuman Dhoka, the king is accompanied by Nepalese officials. During this time the annual rites of Spring begin with a traditional gun salute, followed by venration ceremonies which are performed by the royal priest.
In Hawaii, a joyous filled festival in honor of an ancient goddess associated with the Narcissus flower is celebrated.
In China on this day an annual festival honoring the goddess Kuan Yin takes place.
