On this day in 1988, Circle Sanctuary of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin became officially recognized as a Wiccan church by local Township, and County Government seats. Circle Sanctuary's attainment of zoning as a church was a significant victory for Wiccans around the world due to it being the first time a Pagan group had ever been publicly sanctioned by local government officials in the United States.
