The Magickal Calendar

(A Victorian Grimoire ~ Patricia Telesco ~ Llewellyn Publications 1996 ~ PPS 43-45)

Spring Equinox ~ March 21st.

We begin our year with the turning of the wheel toward the sun. This is a time when light triumphs over darkness, a season for new beginnings and freedom from bondage. It is said that now the Lord of the Sun reaches a gentle hand to the Maiden Moon. As the bouquet of spring rains fills the air, the two begin to waltz together. As they move over the land, the first spring flowers break through the Earth and bloom beneath their feet. Wherever they travel, hopelessness becomes delight and dark clouds are hurled away to bring glorious warmth. Join in their happiness, as the Earth is reborn with the dawn.

Invocation

In space beyond all space and time

Tis to thee we come to find,

To bless the work from out our hands

And loose the ties that bind.

Within this circle drawn round

Your power now unfolds,

As wondrous secrets ever young

Bequeathed from times of old.

Round fires burning towards the moon

With pentacle and candles bright,

Are we in working magicks, Be!

As dancers in the night.

To join our voice with ageless chants

Of cup and sword, day and dark,

The Gods preserve the Craft as we

Merry Meet and Merry Part.

             Prayer

Spring air,

Rise with loving rains,

Greet the dawn over hill and plains,

Bring your song, pray come again.

Touch the dews with scents of myrrh

Wing of peace in our hearts stir

Never cease your praise of Her.

          Activities

A good time to exchange eggs as an emblem of life and fertility. The Druids often dyed eggs in red in honor of the sun, and various cultures represent the Divine as a great bird. To this day, the egg is often given as an amulet of prosperity, fertility, and protection. With it comes the promise of life. Because of the strong symbolism of new beginnings that comes with spring, bless your seeds before planting. Liberate yourself from an old habit or idea and spend time outside enjoying the awakening world.
