Andean Opal

Andean Opal contains a swirling of pink, black, beige, and sometimes blue colors. The swirling effect comes from the orderly, stacking of spherical structures. This results in a diffractive grating wehich can divide light into the spectral colors. The diameter of the spheres within any grouping determines the resultant color combinations. Conversely uncolored opals (Common Opal or Potch) contains spheres which are not of orderly size or stacking.
