Iris agate is a transluscent to transparent fortification agate with fine close bands, producing a pattern of diffraction from which is emitted an iridescence.

It helps to awaken the inner self and make one receptive to truth. It promotes happiness, longevity, good health, and the friendship of others.

The rainbow effect, produced when this agate is sliced very thin, brings the serenity and peacefulness of "rainbows" into ones life. It has also been used to increase the abilities required for psychic "seeing", producing an activation of the intuition and the inner knowing which is attained with wisdom. In addition, it has been used for gazing during shamanistic rituals and during soul-journeying to the interior of the body and/or mind.

It can be used in the treatment of disorders of the eyes, skin, hair, and nails. It has also been used to eliminate dehydration.
