Hemimorphite

Hemimorphite, which is composed of Hydrated Zinc Silicate Hydroxide, is classified as a sorosilicate. It is extracted commercially as a minor ore of zinc, as well as to supply the specimen trade. It used to be known as "Calamine", however, as this name was already being used for a different mineral, it was renamed. There are two main types of Hemimorphite — one forms as botryoidal crusts, while the other is made up of flat bladed crystals with a vitreous luster. The main localities for it are the Santa Eulalia and Mapimi mines in Mexico, sites in New Mexico and New Jersey, USA, as well as others in England and Zambia.
