Kyanite(s) |
Kyanite, which is an Aluminum Silicate, is usually an attractive pale sapphire blue color and is also known as Cyanite and Disthene. It forms long, flat, prismatic crystals, often in association with other minerals these may include andalusite, biotite, garnets, quartz, sillimanite, and staurolite. Good examples are prized by collectors. Kyanite has an unusual hardness property it is around 4.5 in the longitudinal direction, but much higher around 6.5 in the transverse direction. It has a vitreous, pearly, or dull luster and a white streak.
