Scapolite, which over the years has been referred to as Wernerite, and Mizzonite, is a generic term for a mineral series that ranges between Marialite and Melonite. Distinguishing between the various forms can be exceedingly difficult, due to the close similarity of their properties. It is sometimes used as a gemstone; however, although it can have attractive coloration, its lack of hardness and vitreous luster prevent it from being more desireable. It rarely forms complete crystals, and is more easily seen with uneven faces. Under ultra-violet light it fluoresces yellow, orange or red. It has a specific gravity of 2.5 -2.7.
