Wavellite




Wavellite is a soft, pale green mineral that is composed of hydrated Aluminum Phosphate Hydroxide. It has no commercial significance as an ore, but is collected for sale to the mineral specimen trade. It forms as a secondary material as small globular or botryoidal clusters of radiating needle-like crystals on parent matrix rocks such as limestone or chert. The main localities for it are Arkansas and Pennsylvania in the United States, as well as Bolivia and in parts of England. It has a vitreous luster, a white streak, and an uneven fracture.
