Zoisite, which is typically a green color, is composed of Calcium Aluminum Silicate Hydroxide, and classified in the Sorosilicate subclass of the silicates. It belongs to the epidote group, and is primarily extracted for use as gemstones, mineral specimens, and for ornamental purposes. It forms transparent to tranluscent orthorhombic crystals as well as massive or granular systems. Although it is usually green, it can also be anywhere from colorless to purple, gray, yellow, brown, or pink. It is found in Tanzania, the United States, Switzerland, India, and Austria, often in association with andradite, garnets, biotite, calcite, corundum, hornblende, and quartz as well as other minerals.
