Five of Swords

The Five of Swords is one of the cards of the Minor Arcana. Depicted on this card is a man looking scornfully at two dejected figures, who have left their swords lying on the ground. He has two swords on his left shoulder and one pointing to the ground. A storm is brewing in the background. This is a card which can be interpreted several different ways. This card when it comes into the spread can show treachery or deciet as well as victory or vanquishing an enemy. When I see this card I normally tell the querent that they may of in the past had a bitter argument where they felt they were right, yet in truth they may have lost more than they gained. This card shows that often we have to look at the whole of the picture and is our pride worth the losses? Are we the victor or the vanquished?
