The agate is a stone of persuation, attraction, harmony, and special attention. It gives courage, guards against danger, and protects against worldly troubles. Place variegated and banded agate crystals under your pillow at night to relieve insomnia and bring good dreams. Brown or Black Agates with a white ring in the center may be used to ward off the evil eye.

Agate is a type of quartz, and is therefore composed of silicon dioxide and classified as a tectosilicate. It is usually mostly made up of chalcedony, and there are many, many different varieties. These include blue lace agate, banded agate, moss agate, and onyx. It is very popular with the jewelry trade as well as for ornamental purposes. Large quantities are prepared for sale as display pieces in a highly polished form — the majority of these are artificially dyed to enhance or even radically alter their natural coloration. Agate occurs in various forms all around the world.
