Hard Aspect—Aspects that create tension and friction — squares, oppositions, and quincunxes. Inharmonious aspects.
Harmonics—Concerning aspects derived from 360 divided by any whole number. Produces many types of aspects not traditionally considered.
Harmonious Aspects—These are conjunct, sextile, and trine. Also referred to as the soft or easy aspects.
Harmony of the Spheres—Referring to musical tones, emitted by heavenly bodies as they travel in space. Devised by the Greek mathematician Pythagoras.
Heliacal Planets—See Oriental Planets.
Heliocentric—Meaning the Sun is at the centre. A heliocentric astrology system would give the planetary positions as seen from the centre of the Sun.
Hemisphere—One of two halves of the celestial sphere (Earth) divided by the equator.
Horary Astrology—The branch of astrology where specific questions are answered by means of a chart drawn up at the time the question is asked. Subject to strict rules. Horary means 'by the hour'.
Horizon—The visible or apparent horizon is a circle formed by the sky meeting the Earth from the perspective of the querent.
Horoscope—Technically another term for a natal chart. Popularly known as a forecast of (daily) events based on a person's Sun sign. Means 'view the hour'.
House Cusp—The dividing line between two houses. Planets on the cust will influence both houses. The MC sits on the cusp of the Ninth and Tenth Houses.
House System—One of a number of ways to divide the sky into houses. The best-known systems are the Koch, Placidus, Campanus, Regiomontanus, and Equal House Systems.
Houses—Division of the sky into twelve parts in the same orientation as the zodiac. Houses are numbered 1 to 12 where number 1 is fixed to the eastern horizon from the querent's point of reference. Houses are numbered in the same order as the order of the zodiac. Houses add meaning to the sign in which they fall, and are energised by the planets that reside in them. See also House System.
